Places of Artistic and Cultural Interest:
9 June 1099 represents a very important date for the city of Modena. On that day, the foundation stone of Modena Cathedral was laid, a splendid example of Romanesque art that amazed its contemporaries, and still continues to amaze today for its extraordinary beauty and originality.
Next to the apse of the cathedral, the Ghirlandina tower, symbol of the city of Modena, projects upwards at 89.32 metres, agile and slender in its harmonious proportions.
Born from the amalgamation of various institutes, the new museum transcends the constraints of its jagged physical and administrative geography to become a unique and proactive spokesperson for a shared cultural identity
The sumptuous Baroque palace, commissioned by Duke Francesco I d'Este in 1634, was built to a design by Bartolomeo Avanzini and the advice of famous architects of the time.
The Maestro built this house to welcome friends, teach young singers and enjoy family life. Come in and discover his private collection of memorabilia, costumes and awards collected during his long career. Join us in remembering and preserving the artistic and philanthropic legacy of the man "who moved the world".

The Palazzo Ducale in Sassuolo is one of the most important Baroque residences in northern Italy. Its current appearance took shape at the behest of Duke Francesco I d'Este, who in 1634 commissioned the architect Bartolomeo Avanzini to transform the ancient family castle into a modern residence for the court.
